GENDER EQUITY AND ACCESS TO CREDIT FOR WOMEN COFFEE PRODUCERS

Presented by: Karen Cebreros, President of Women of Coffee Microfinance

In this 1-hour on-demand webinar presentation, Karen Cabreros, President of Women of Coffee Microfinance, discusses how the Coffee Industry is in a state of hyper - crisis. Will there be coffee available by 2050? Climate change, Roya, pests, slash and burn, tired trees, and soil, volcanoes, earth quakes, hurricanes all impact the crop production. But, nothing is more critical than the lack of interest in youth going into the coffee farming business. Pay is too low, work is too hard, families are moving to the city, and Millennials want education and better livelihoods. Women do 70-80% of the work in coffee but own less than 1% of the land that coffee grows on. What can be done about this state of hyper-crisis and to establish a balance in gender equity?
